Lee's Yukon Moose Story

It all began with a phone call from Greg Ritz last summer. Greg asked Lee if he would like to go to the Yukon with Jim Shockey to shoot a moose. Ok, as you all can imagine, Lee answered quickly with a resounding YES! (Hello!) There was still no hesitation when he told Lee there wouldn't be any room for me. He said, "That's ok, she can go elk hunting." So, for the first time ever, Lee & I parted ways for a hunt. Lee headed to the Yukon with Big George and I headed down to New Mexico with Nate & my mom. It was an absolute whirlwind getting everyone packed and waiting for our new Crush bus to arrive.

Three flights later, Lee was up, ready to roll and ready to hunt. On his first day out, Lee saw a shooter bull, and even he seriously questioned his own sanity this time, considering the bull was giant, but you know Lee by now -- it was the first day so he let him walk, convinced there was a monster out there. In fact, every day Lee saw some great bulls but they weren't shooters, so when day 4 rolled in, he started to panic. The weather was wet and windy, but every night they were able to dry out in their wall tent with their guide Dave. On day 6 a monster bull was spotted from the river and the game was back on! Thank goodness for Dave, because Lee thought he lost the monster bull when he headed in another direction. Dave's persistent calling brought the bull back and offered Lee a 33 yard shot. Bam! Down went "Frasier".

They're pretty sure this Yukon Monster will score in the top 5 biggest bulls ever shot with a bow.
I was so excited to get the call from Lee via satellite phone.

BBD!
Well, I'd love to tell you I had the same good fortune, but this time all the glory belongs to Lee. At least I had the better end of the deal when it comes to travel. Nate, my mom Linda & I had a blast on our new Crush bus. I did see some nice bull elk in New Mexico, but just never got close enough. Bummer, but hoping to make up for it in Sydney, Montana hunting whitetails this week at Jackie Bushman's ranch. Stay tuned!
Peace, Love & Venison
