Iowa Monster!

Ok, so it's 3am Monday morning Oct 5th. We're back home in Iowa (finally) and what do our sleepy ears hear? A horn blaring!  This could only mean one thing... our good friend Gary LeVox (Rascal Flatts) had arrived and he was going to make sure we all got up to welcome him! = ) He rolled in on his tour bus ready to hunt whitetails.

Now let's back up a bit. Gary has become a very good friend of ours over the past few years, but he's been hunting long before we met. Gary's Dad got him interested in hunting 28 yrs ago and he started shooting a recurve at the ripe age of 10. Gary also hunts with a muzzelloader but his passion is bowhunting.  In fact, he has only killed one deer with a gun, and all other hunting successes have been with archery.

Besides his passion for hunting, Gary LeVox has a passion for music. As many of you know, he has been a member of the most awarded band in country music history for 9 years. Rascal Flatt's first album was released June 11, 2000 and since then, they have achieved 11 number one hits and have sold over 20 million albums. Gary has a beautiful family - his wife Tara, of 10 years, and 2 daughters, Brooklyn (5) and Brittney (9). So, what on earth doesn't Gary have, you ask?  Well, before Monday night, he didn't have the biggest buck of his life 30 yards in front of him!  Meet "Caribou".

"Caribou" - a monster whitetail we've been following for a few years now on video and on our cuddeback cameras. Last year he was a straight ten point at 3 1/2 years old.  Now at  4 1/2 years old, his left beam has 2 main beams, which is why we nic-named him "Caribou".

Gary was hunting over an Antler King food-plot. He released his arrow from his Mathews DXT at 30 yards. What a shot!  "Caribou" ran 75 yards before he dropped.

Congrats Gary!

What an awesome buck, and on his first night out no less! Gary hadn't even been here for 24 hours before bringing this bad boy down.

Hmmmmm....I think I had a little deer-envy going on here, or just wishful thinking, since I had to pass on a 150 inch buck the same night. Nice buck, but just not old enough. Soon enough, I'll catch ya Gary!

Hey everyone, stay tuned because now it's my turn! (Ok, Lee's turn too).

Thanks for checking in!

Peace, Love & Venison,

Tiffany
