The Low Down
Double Duty. Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky?!
Friday the 13th is no longer an unlucky day for the Lakosky household. Did they win the lottery? No, but they did get their first ever Iowa double!
Let's start with Lee and the 10 point he was chasing for over a week. He would see this monster daily but could not get a good shot. Big George & Lee tried moving their stands, but as soon as they did, the 10-point would come out where they had just moved from. You can imagine, Lee was getting a bit cranky, and Tiffany admits to the same, since she was in her stand since Oct 4 hearing nothing but "He's not big enough". If the buck was big enough, she never had a shot. Two crabby Lakoskys sitting in a tree and they were not k-i-s-s-i-n-g! ; ) Bless Nate & George for enduring this fun time. Time for a new strategy. Lee decided he & Tiffany should both hunt the 10-point. This way, if he moved, at least one of them would get a shot.
"It was almost crazy when I looked at my phone and had a text from Lee that said 'BBD!', " Tiffany said. "We were not more than a couple hundred yards from each other. How the heck did we miss that?"
Tiffany is going to take some credit for this one, and she should, since Lee was going on 9 days without a shot at this beautiful buck. Talk about a lucky charm!

Lee's 10 Point in July 2009

Lee's Buck on Oct 3 2009. I'll bet Lee wishes he had been in this tree-stand that day!
After helping Lee with his buck, Nate & Tiffany rushed to a ground blind in a cut corn field. They had been seeing a couple great bucks on that farm, and sooner than later, something had to go Tiffany's way. Two hours later, a giant-framed buck stepped out at the end of the field. As soon as they spotted him, Nate started saying, "He's too young, not a shooter." Well, Tiffany did not agree, so Nate takes another look and realizes this is the big 8 point they had pictures of back in July.
He was 100 yards away when a doe started to work her way towards us. The buck started to follow, but she was only 10 yards in front of the blind and was looking pretty nervous. Tiffany was also getting nervous, "No way is this going to work!. The 8 point continued coming our way and was at 20 yards when the doe started to run." Tiffany still didn't have a shot since he was to the right of her blind. He started running after the doe and right in front of the blind.
"He stopped, and I shot and crushed him with my new G5 Tekan!" Tiffany said. "My 40+ day dry spell was finally over with a huge 8 point on the ground. Lee was in the middle of taking pictures of his buck when he got my text, so he & Big George rushed over. The buck had gone about 100 yards."
