Wyoming Whitetail Hunt

What a great way to start out the hunting season, with Jeff & Deb Smith and our great friend David Blanton from Realtree (realtree.com) at Seven J Outfitters in Sundance, Wyoming.

I had my new Mathews Passion in my hands and Lee was strutting around with his Mathews Reezen.  We were both more than ready for this six day hunt.  As I might have mentioned before, this is where Lee & I spent our honeymoon 6 years ago to the date, so just being there brought back some great memories. We were ready to make more!

Just as we had remembered it, the hunting was good, but with a full moon and very warm weather to contend with it definitely brought upon some challenges. It's tough to pinpoint the bucks with the terrain out in Wyoming, because the deer can go anywhere.  The first day of the hunt Lee passed a 150 inch buck. Now my motto is to shoot the buck on the first day, that you'd be happy to shoot on the last day of the hunt.

Lee was seeing quite a few deer throughout the week, and also passed on a nice double-mainbeam buck at 5 yards. What can I say, Lee Lakosky does not shoot "nice" bucks. They have to be downright monsters.

It was the last night of our hunt, and just when I thought we'd be going home empty-handed, the craziest thing happened. A storm blew in and branches were flying everywhere. All of a sudden, our camera man Nate whispers, "Tiff, there's a buck!" I grabbed my bow, Nate zoomed in and gave me the "ok" and I let my arrow fly. I watched my first ever Wyoming buck crash in the field. Wow, last chance of the hunt and BBD!
